I often liken the therapeutic process to sorting through a box filled with our most significant struggles, traumas, anxieties, and more. Frequently, we may find ourselves neglecting this box, pushing it to the back of the closet where it can momentarily feel easier to ignore. However, when left unattended, the contents can begin to grow larger, ripping at the seams of the box and affecting other areas of our lives.
This buildup can prevent us from fully experiencing all that life has to offer. While it is impossible to completely eradicate these negative elements from our lives, having a safe environment to address and process them allows us to reduce their impact. This can create space for positive experiences such as joy, compassion, perspective, fulfilling relationships, a greater sense of self, and possibility for the future.
